SHE WORE WHAT?!

VLV 15 PosterEarlier this month Mister and I flew out to Vegas for our first ever Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend.  It was unreal.

Some call it Disneyland for Rockabillies.  That pretty much sums it up.

Thousands of hot rod enthusiasts, rockabilly music lovers and vintage fans converge upon The Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada for four days of cars, music, burlesque, pinups, shopping and hanging with the coolest cats in town.  There is so much to do and see that the action is non-stop from 10 in the morning to 6 am the following morning.  Every day.

It is an insomniac’s playland.

I took thousands of photos.  Mostly of the fashion show.  ’Cause, well, you know…

These are just as I saw them… Viva through my lens, if you will.  Please do not be offended if I snapped a multitude of photos of you.  It is a compliment, really.  I found you interesting.  If you happen to spot yourself and want a copy, give me a shout.

Sadly, I spent more time behind the camera than in front of it so I do not have many outfit photos for you, but I assure you I was dressed for the occasion.  We had to make a 2 am run to Wal-Mart to buy me a bigger suitcase just for the trip.  Crinolines are not made for traveling, yo.

Neither are longline bras.  I got a TSA pat down thanks to that.  And had my head squeezed due to the rolls in my hair.  Just a little vintage flying FYI for ya.

She Wore What at VLV 15

Ain’t that a kick in the head?

The Rat Pack show was not part of Viva, but you know there is no way Mister and I could leave Vegas without seeing Frank, Dean and Sammy.  No way, no how.  I think it was the highlight of our trip.

So those were the sights.  Now I will leave you with the sounds… of The Ventures.  Enjoy!

When good girls go bad.Do you ever feel the need to change your look?  Shake things up a bit?  Flip the coin?

I do.

This is the result of one of those urges…

Growing up I was a bit of a tomboy.  I was happy as a clam running in the woods, building tree forts, or damning up the creek.  I rode dirt bikes and little Honda motorcycles and ripped the heads off Barbie dolls.

In my teens, I discovered demolition derby and solidified my love for cars and racing forever.  I continued to compete in demo derbies well into adulthood and even dabbled in snowmobile racing.  Then I turned 30.

It happens to the best of us.

Demo Days

You get a job, get married, buy a house, have kids… get bogged down in everyday life and push your free willing self to the side.  I get it.  At some point you have to grow up and become a responsible adult.  There is no shame in that.

But you do not have to become an automated shell of your former self.  Forever stuck on auto pilot, just going through the motions until your inevitable death.  Live it up!  Throw caution to the wind once in a while and don’t take yourself so seriously.

Wear what you want.  Do what you want.  Be what you want.  Life is too short not to.

One bad mutha

SHE WORE WHAT?! Vintage

Wow.  Long time no see, eh? I am back, temporarily.  Much like the vintage I am wearing. In my absence I have been chatting it up with the ModSquad on Facebook, planning numerous upcoming events, enjoying the unseasonably warm weather and styling lots of ModCloth outfits. My vintage pieces seem to be making more cameo [...]

I love color.  I wear a lot of it.  The brighter the better.  It makes me happy. Having said that, I am not sure what prompted me to pull this outfit together, but it was a welcomed change. Sometimes it is refreshing to switch things up a bit and step outside your comfort zone. Speaking [...]

Hello lovelies!  Event season is in full swing for me.  Between attending and planning, there is little time left for blogging. Which is why you are seeing this post three weeks after it happened. If you follow me on facebook or flickr, you have already gotten a peek of this dress. I wore it at [...]

I do not wear body conscious clothing all too often. I prefer full skirts with nipped in waists, because well… I like my waist, but am not really crazy about what is below it. But since I joined the self-love revolution over at A is for Ampersand, I am putting it all out there and [...]

I cannot believe we are a month into 2012 already! This year is shaping up to be a wild one for sure.  My schedule is nuts and the weather has been too.  The lack of snow and warm temperatures has myself and the birds all confused. I have Robins, Cedar Wax Wings and Starlings already! [...]

I feel a bit like Joe Friday in this outfit. The detective hat, handcuffs, drab color. Maybe not the hot pink belt, but you get the idea. Even though this dress is a drab color, it is still a fun little number.  It is pretty unassuming from the front, but the deep V in the [...]

SHE WORE WHAT?! Calendar Girl

Last August, Mister and I made the trek to the other side of the state for our second Symco Shakedown and my first pin up contest. It was a bit nerve racking, but a lot of fun.  The girls were totally cool. After the competition, they took the top 12 girls out into the car [...]
