IN THE HOTSEAT

Last August, Mister and I made the trek to the other side of the state for our second Symco Shakedown and my first pin up contest.

2011 Miss Symco Pin up Contest

It was a bit nerve racking, but a lot of fun.  The girls were totally cool.

After the competition, they took the top 12 girls out into the car show for a photoshoot.  My pic was taken on the porch of that General Store.

The whole experience was a blast.  The show was great, filled with cool hot rods, awesome music and equally cool and awesome people.  I went away with rad new friends, a fabulous pinstriped purse and this:

My very own spot on the 2012 Symco Shakedown calendar!

My copy arrived yesterday.  I quickly whipped it open to discover I, Fanny Freckles, am Miss February.

It’s kinda weird looking at it.  I see pictures of myself all the time, but they are almost all taken by me.  Do I really have that many freckles?

Guess who got a shout-out in the New York Times?

New York Times spotlight

How freakin' cool is that?!

Me!  squeeeeee

It was a quick mention on my guest post at Pepperoni Is Not A Vegetable about going meatless (not vegan) for Lent.  I’m way too addicted to dairy to go vegan.

If I were stranded on deserted island, the two things I would wish for are lip balm and a cow.  I’m miserable without either one.  And of course rescue!  But in the meantime, life would be much bearable with milk and lip balm. :)

Speaking of wishes…. Tonight is our last supper before Lent.  I’ve granted the fam one final meat request before we “do without” for 40 days.  Mister wanted steak, which we had last night and Miss M. requested Swedish meatballs, which we will have tonight.  It’s veggies from there on out.

You still have time to make the pledge and join the “Do without” Challenge.  CLICK HERE to sign up!

THRIFT SCORE: Oronoco Gold Rush Days

arlier this summer I took a road trip to Oronoco, Minnesota for their annual Gold Rush Days.  Oronoco is like the mother of all antique fair/flea markets around here.  Other than Warrens, Wisconsin’s Cranfest coming up this weekend, but that’s more craft crap.  I’m more into regular crap, er, junk, I mean thrifted treasure. Oronoco [...]
