My last CSA day
y what a summer it has been. Sadly, nothing says summer is over like your last CSA day. The leaves are dropping, my garden is dying, I’m wearing tights, and no more farm-fresh veggies will be coming my way. Bummer.
Being our first foray into Community Supported Agriculture {CSA}, we split a share with another family, receiving our share every other week. It has been an enlightening 10 weeks, let me tell ya! Between our garden and the CSA, the three of us – eating mostly vegetarian – had a hard time keeping up. I can’t imagine what a whole share would be like. Veggie overload! You definitely get your money’s worth.
The end of summer calls for celebration, don’t you think? I didn’t throw a party, but I did wear a party dress.

I spy Fall on the horizon.

h man, did I score a lot of local loot today! My CSA {Community Supported Agriculture} had a huge Napa Cabbage in it this week. Anyone know what to do with it? Spinach, lettuce, and Kohlrabi made a comeback, along with the usual beets, tomatoes, and jalapeños. Parsley and winter squash were new. One leek also made a cameo appearance. The carrots I purchased at the People’s Food Coop. The rest of the goodies came from the Farmers Market.
Now to decide what to do with all this yummy stuff.
In other news…. I totally missed my coop’s Eat Local Challenge! WTH Not that it matters much, since joining a CSA and planting a garden we’ve been eating local a lot all summer. Still, I like the challenge of doing more. The national Eat Local Challenge is coming up in October, I believe. Will you be participating? If you’re new to the locavore world, www.eatlocalchallenge.com has an article up right now about it: Five Steps to Eating Local. I’m also happy to answer any questions. One of my current projects is developing a website for the Local Foods & Sustainable Agriculture {LFSA} task force of Coulee Partners for Sustainability {CPS}. LFSA is a group I belong to that formed to connect consumers with local foods by promoting health and well being, community enrichment, and environmental sustainability. Exciting stuff!
Now I have a mountain of vegetables to put away. Cheers!
