This blog started as one thing and morphed into something else entirely. It began as a way to reach out to others on the same path as I – living sustainably, going green, environmentally friendly, or whatever you like to call it. I was quite shy about my experiences at first, at home anyway. Online I felt free to let it all hang out, quite literally. Underwear, reusable menstrual pads and all, line drying for the world to see, but at home I didn’t dare tell a soul for fear of ridicule. I hid my tree-hugging ways like a dirty little secret. Connecting with others online and sharing experiences bolstered my confidence. Step by step I began to do more and little by little I became more open about it. Two years later I have come out of the crunchy closet, living sustainably is my way of life and I see no reason to hide it. I am no longer the “greeen sheeep” of the family.
Sustainability is still a big portion of my life and you will still find information on “going green” and my experiences with it on Midnight Maniac, but it isn’t all my life. I have many interests: gardening, biking, planning parties, flower arranging, cake decorating, cooking, baking, bird watching, mushroom hunting, volunteering, homesteading, thrifting, fashion – Yes, fashion. Vintage fashion, more precisely. Reusing, buying second-hand, wearing vintage – they are all ways to go green. - basically, I can’t decide what I want to do when I grow up, so I just do it all and this is where I blog about it.
Cheers!
PRODUCT REVIEW/PR POLICY
I am open to doing reviews as long as your product/service falls into one of these categories:
- ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY
- ALTERNATIVE TO PLASTIC
- ORGANIC
- GARDENING
- MAKING MEALS AT HOME
- FOOD PRESERVATION
- HANDCRAFTED
- REPURPOSED
- VINTAGE
- INDIE
- EDUCATIONAL (Preferably in regards to sustainability, living lighter, going green, etc.)
I reserve the right not to review your product/service even after receiving it. Mother always says, “If you can’t say anything nice, it’s best not to say anything at all.” Having said that, bear in mind that I will not write a glowing review just because you gave me free stuff. If you want an honest, real-world opinion, then this is the place. I tell it like it is. You should also be forewarned that I am a very busy lady. I work, I volunteer, I have a house to run and a family to feed. And I procrastinate. I make no guarantee of when or if your review will be done. I will send notice with a link once it is up.
Wait, there’s more…
I despise plastic. Plastic is a huge burden on the planet. When doing reviews I take everything into account, including the product’s packaging and the manner in which it was shipped. I respectfully request that you DO NOT use plastic packing materials when shipping me your product, this includes Styrofoam. There are alternatives. Need help in this area? Contact me first, I am more than happy to offer ideas! I encourage and welcome recycled and reused materials. I don’t care what is written on the outside of the box or if it is filled with yesterday’s newspaper. My worms eat it all the same. Box a little battered? No worry. Packages get the crap beat out of them in shipping anyway. I am not put off by a less-than-pristine package. My worms don’t mind either.
Haven’t scared you away yet? Good. You’re the companies I like to do business with. For a review request click on the man below to open an email and tell me all about it.
By displaying the Blog with Integrity badge, I assert that the trust of my readers and the blogging community is important to me.
I treat others respectfully, attacking ideas and not people. I also welcome respectful disagreement with my own ideas.
I believe in intellectual property rights, providing links, citing sources, and crediting inspiration where appropriate.
I disclose my material relationships, policies and business practices. My readers will know the difference between editorial, advertorial, and advertising should I choose to have it. If I do sponsored or paid posts, they are clearly marked.
When collaborating with maketers and PR professionals, I handle myself professionally and abide by journalistic standards.
I always present my honest opinions to the best of my ability.
I own my words. Even if I occasionally have to eat them.
